Jo and Clive began their journey to organic vegetable production in 2020, when they purchased a 1 hectare small-holding in the Kent countryside at the foot of the North Downs.
Moving to Lower Cock Ash was the start of their ambition – to develop a regenerative fruit and vegetable farm with the principles of growing delicious food and environmental stewardship at its heart.
Lower Cock Ash Organics is situated on a site that had been left as pasture. It has been our pleasure to bring a 500 year old medieval house and the adjoining land back to a point where it flourishes again.
After a year spent restoring the medieval house, we focused on developing the land and so started work on bringing it back to a point where it could be productive for the local community.
After completing the 2 year conversion process, we achieved full organic status in 2023. Growing a diverse selection of fruit in our newly planted orchards and a large selection of vegetables from the plot and polytunnel – we make available a wide choice of edibles to inspire those that cook and enjoy amazing flavours in their culinary adventures.
As with our huge variety of tomatoes, we apply a similarly adventurous choice to our
other produce, whilst not neglecting the staples upon which we all rely. As well as offering vegetable boxes in season, we supply wholesale to the vibrant food cultures in Folkestone, Canterbury and restaurants in the area.
We hope that the specific and as far as we know, unique market garden that we’ve created will resonate with people who care about the quality of their produce and the environment.
A second strand to our offering is our passion for soil health. We host Soil Health Days, Compost Clinics and workshops every year, as we believe there is no separation between what we eat and the soil it’s grown in.
We hope that the quality of our produce will naturally open up those routes to a deeper understanding of why chemical-free is so important for us and the planet. Believing there is no separation between what we eat, the soil it’s grown in, and sharing the understanding of this amazing process is key for us.
